STATUS: IN PROGRESS

The Upper Far Northeast/Lower Far Northeast District Plan has officially begun as of June 2016. PCPC staff are working on these districts in conjunction with each other and will produce one district plan for the two districts.

Neighborhoods:

Bustleton, Somerton, Byberry, and Industrial Parks on the east and west sides of Roosevelt Blvd.

Key Issues:

Upper Northeast Philadelphia is a suburban-like area located along the Bustleton Avenue corridor. Walkability, pedestrian safety and traffic calming are important issues. Public transit is needed to relieve traffic congestion. Existing bus routes are widely used by students and local workers alike. Commuter rail is available at the Somerton, Byberry and Philmont stations. Management and upkeep of retail centers and industrial parks is a concern. Community groups monitor zoning variances and their effect on existing development. Conversion of single family homeowner houses to multi-family rental properties is a related issue.
