District at a Glance:
Well-known for trendy shopping and dining in Manayunk and East Falls, the Lower Northwest also boasts stable, desirable residential areas.
Top planning issues include:
-
The Schuylkill River Trail needs to be completed in the Wissahickon, Manayunk, Upper Roxborough, and Shawmont Valley neighborhoods.
-
Protection of environmental and cultural assets is an issue in Shawmont Valley and Upper Roxborough.
-
Continuing the successful stewardship of the Wissahickon park and watershed is an ongoing need.
-
The Ridge Avenue commercial corridor is centrally located with good transit access.
-
Existing efforts to manage and improve “The Ridge” are effective but need to be supported and carried forward into the future.
-
In East Falls, residents and major institutions are working toward mutually beneficial town/gown relations.
