Neighborhood Exchange: East Parkside & Strawberry Mansion

City Planning's Citizens Planning Institute hosted our first Neighborhood Exchange between residents from Strawberry Mansion and East Parkside. During the event, they visited each other's neighborhoods to share their successes and challenges with their neighborhood's aging housing stock, which residents struggle to afford maintaining, as well as other challenges they've addressed!

Both neighborhoods' stories are featured in the Citizens Toolkit, and we recorded Facebook Live videos during the event.

There were interactive tours of both neighborhoods, led by community leaders of Strawberry Mansion CDC and Centennial Parkside CDC. The format of both tours was casual and conversational; we walked and stopped at particular points of interests and residents shared their stories and explained how they accomplished various neighborhood improvements. A super inspirational Saturday!! Huge thanks to the Strawberry Mansion & Centennial Parkside CDCs, Philadelphia PHLASH for donating bus service, Christ Community Baptist Church for hosting us in East Parkside, Knight Foundation for the funding, and PlanPhilly for covering the event!
